CHECKLIST FOR A WEEKEND HUNGAMA

A trip is not normally what you take a car on rent and do hit the roads instantly, whereas it requires a lot more than what we actually think, PLANNING. A lot of ground work needs to be put down on it and proper planning is required to make your trip a successful one.

When it comes to planning a trip, we have listed down certain checklist that we need to maintain.

  • YOUR RIDE PARTNER

India has no short of travel partners when it comes to choosing one. We have numerous travel partners around us who offer us hassle free rides at the very minimal and transparent cost. The important things that we need to look in while choosing these partners are the maintenance of the vehicle, well trained chauffeurs if you opt for a chauffeur driven car and such…

  • WHEN TO TRAVEL

India is a pack of most varieties of climate and one needs to understand the time reach to a particular location for example, one cannot visit Shimogga in the month of December and a wildlife sanctuary in the monsoons. Make it a point to go through the weather conditions and tourist season for your target destinations so not to be caught off guard.

  • WHERE TO TRAVEL

India is no short of tourist destinations and places of historical importance. We have such locations in every nook and corner of our country and our only concern is to choose among the best that suits you. Be always on the wise side to explore such options before actually taking up a road trip.

  • DURATION OF THE TRAVEL

The next point that we need to have in our checklist or Plan is the duration of your travel. Bangalore to Chennai takes not more than 7 hours of travel but this doesn’t count as a road trip unless you really venture in to the towns and villages en route. A road trip isn’t just a really long drive. Exploration plays a major role too. Spare a few days to make pit stops at places that interest you. India has a lot to offer so spare a couple of hours before a halt to discover something amazing on your every trip.

  • DRIVING COMPANION

The next part of your checklist is to identify who you travel with. Your endurance on the road might be very different from those of your companions’. Long drives aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and you really wouldn’t want the unnecessary moaning and complaining. There’s also the comfort factor to be taken in to account. If you’re driving with four other passengers, then the front seats tend to be more comfortable than the ones at the back. Take turns and rotate seats. Don’t let a fun journey become a painful one for everyone!

  • MUST CARRY IN YOUR TRIP

Again, a vital part of a road trip, be prepared for the unexpected! Here are a basic set of things that you must have:

Flashlight - Please don’t look at your mobile smart light app as a substitute! Get yourself a high power flashlight fitted with a new set of batteries.

First Aid Kit - In addition to the standard one in your car, pick specific medicines that you or your companions may require.

Road Helpline Numbers/Service Centre Numbers - These handy booklets are available online and at all car service centres. Don’t forget to grab your copy.

Foot Pump & Puncture Repair Kit - Opt for a sturdy foot pump versus the flimsy electric pumps available in the market. You should also have a puncture repair kit in case of tubeless tyres.

GPS/Navigation System - This is an essential part of your road trip. Most smart phones these days have in-built navigation systems. If you’re planning to use yours, then you must buy a dashboard mount and a car charger for it as navigating for long hours drains the phone battery pretty quickly.

  • THE DRIVE RATIO

If you are chauffeur driven, then this point does not apply much but if it is a self drive, then my personal advise is that a road trip shouldn’t be more than 25% of your driving time i.e. if your road trip is for 2 days (48 hours) then it should at the most have a driving time of not more than 12 hours. You can distribute your drive time as per your convenience, alternating between long and short spells or a very long one before taking a day off.

  • NIGHT DRIVING

It is always well know that people drive in the nights so as to get rid of wasting the entire day on a travel. But the fact it is generally advisable to skip late night driving only if you are not aware of the routes or if you are in an unexplored territory.

  • HUMAN REFLEXES

The best thing we all know that night driving is not always safe despite the fact that we still love to drive in the night. You may yourself have witnessed this, from vehicles coming in the wrong way, overtaking in the curves, cutting lanes and using high beam lights. Always make sure that you are alert with your immediate reflexes. Any confrontations in the middle may lead to unwanted accidents and under all circumstances OBEY traffic rules.

Hence plan your trip accordingly and enjoy your weekends to the fullest.
